We go to North Carolina a couple times a year and "mine for stones" in the gem mines. We could buy them outright, but it is much more fun going through buckets of sand and finding the gemstones. Then we bring them home and work them and wire wrap them in sterling silver or gold filled wire. We now have a six wheel grinder/polisher so we can finish them off with a nice shiny smooth finish on some of the stones.Each one is a one of a kind pendant, even if you tried you couldn't do two alike, each pendant comes with a sterling chain or a gold plated chain.
